KUALA LUMPUR — The government will continue the Budi Agri-Komoditi initiative to assist small farmers amid ongoing global economic uncertainties and supply chain disruptions.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the decision followed discussions during the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting today.

He said the meeting heard key presentations from the Plantation and Commodities Ministry as well as the Health Ministry regarding the current global supply chain crisis.

“The people are facing the pressure of rising costs and global economic volatility. As such, the government agrees to continue the Budi Agri-Komoditi initiative to help small farmers, entrepreneurs and vulnerable groups who are the backbone of the country's economy,” he said in a statement on his Facebook page.

Bud Agri-Komoditi, which was introduced in May 2024, provided a monthly cash assistance of RM300 to eligible applicants to help offset fuel and operational costs. In April, it was raised to RM400 monthly.

Its beneficiaries are those involved in key agricultural and commodity sectors. This includes smallholders in the palm oil, rubber, cocoa, pepper and kenaf industries, as well as small-scale farmers, livestock breeders and aquaculture operators.

Applicants must be Malaysian citizens and hold an active registration with the relevant ministries, namely, the Plantation and Commodities Ministry and the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry.

On the Health Ministry’s presentation, Anwar said it reported stable supply for the country’s medicines stockpile.

Earlier today, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said Malaysia’s fuel supply would be stable until July, as assured by Petronas.

Akmal said the government continues to closely monitor developments following Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and to take pro-active measures to prevent profiteering along the supply chain for locally produced food. - May 25, 2026
