PETALING JAYA, July 24 - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasised that the government has never stopped providing development allocations to opposition-held parliamentary constituencies, and described the RM44.5 million fund for 30 flood mitigation projects in Petaling Jaya and Damansara as proof of that commitment.
He said the projects, approved through cooperation between the federal and Selangor governments, demonstrates allegations of the government cutting development funds are baseless.
Anwar said the government continues to channel funds that benefit the people, including for schools, houses of worship, drainage systems and other development projects, but the allocations are no longer disbursed directly through the offices of MPs who do not support the government.
“It’s the people who require the projects, not the MPs. That’s why we continue to disburse allocations to national schools, Chinese national-type schools, Tamil national-type schools, houses of worship, drainage upgrades and other public needs through proper process.
“To claim there are no allocations or that we have cut them is untrue. I have not cut allocations meant for the people. What we do not provide is funding through the offices of MPs. Therefore, there is no basis for any politician to claim the money or allocations do not exist,” he said at the Generasi Muda Suara Baharu event organised by Keadilan Youth at the Petaling Jaya Smart Centre here today.
Also present were Communications Minister and Keadilan information chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil and Keadilan Youth chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim.
Anwar meanwhile said the flood mitigation projects are part of the government’s efforts to address hotspots in Petaling Jaya and Damansara.
Previously, Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung claimed his office lost access to the MyKhas portal on May 29, resulting in disruptions to constituency allocations and People-Friendly Projects (PMR), which can no longer be carried out.
Lee is among Keadilan leaders who resigned from the party’s central leadership council recently.
