Grab Malaysia is stepping up efforts to empower its driver community through new collaborations with GIATMARA and BYD Sime Motors. The initiative focuses on helping its driver and delivery partners upskill and access higher-value opportunities.

“Our collaboration with GIATMARA through GrabAcademy empowers our partners with upskilling and reskilling courses so they can thrive within and beyond Grab. It also supports the government’s ongoing efforts to uplift this segment,” said Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations and Mobility at Grab Malaysia.

GrabAcademy has been offering training programmes with government and private partners since 2017. Over the years, it has reached thousands of drivers and delivery-partners nationwide through collaborations with institutions such as Saito University College and Aisya Rahman Advisory.

Now, with GIATMARA, Grab will expand access to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to help partners gain practical, job-ready skills. These include vehicle care and safety, logistics operations, electrical and EV knowledge, digital and customer service, and small-business and financial management.

The training will combine flexible online learning through GrabAcademy with hands-on sessions at GIATMARA centres. This approach allows partners to learn at their own pace while gaining valuable real-world experience that can open doors to new opportunities.

At the same time, Grab’s partnership with BYD Sime Motors is accelerating the shift to electric mobility. The collaboration began in June 2025 with the deployment of 10 BYD M6 EV MPVs available for booking at KLIA.

Through this programme, eligible driver-partners can receive rebates of up to RM25,000, along with a 2% rebate on cash-paid vehicle services. The incentives reduce barriers to EV ownership and create pathways into higher-value ride categories.

These initiatives with BYD Sime Motors run nationwide from Oct 6 to Dec 31, open to both new and existing driver-partners.
