SANDAKAN: A police lance corporal was charged at the Special Corruption Court here with corruption.

Mohd Razif Hashim, 30, pleaded not guilty before Judge Jason Juga to accepting RM3,500 bribe from a man as an inducement to return the man’s motorcycle, debt books and two passports that Razif seized from him.

The offence was allegedly committed in a car in the Pasar Bandar Sibuga Jaya area, Batu 8 at 11.30am on June 27, 2021.

The offence is charged under Section 16 (a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 punishable under Section 24 (1) of the same Act, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount or value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, on conviction.

MACC Prosecuting Officer Rekhraj Singh, proposed bail at RM10,000 and for the accused to report to the MACC office once a month and that his passport be handed over to the Court.

Razif applied for a lower bail because he was the only one working, his wife was a housewife and they have three children.

The court set May 18 and 19 for mention of the case.

Razif was offered bail at RM10,000 with RM2,000 deposited and the court also ordered his passport to be impounded and that he should report to the nearest MACC office every two months and not to tamper with the witnesses.
