KUNAK: The origin of place names is essential to document and preserve as a reference.

Panglima Abdul Lahil Sarail, 60, the grandson of Kampung Kunak Tiga’s founder, said the village was one of the earliest settlements in the district since the 1950s.

He claimed it was started by his grandfather, OT Panglima Ombit Peyan.

“Ombit was one of the leaders in the Lahad Datu district council under British administration at that time,” he said.
