Adam Scott and Padraig Harrington are among the most successful golfers in the game over the last two decades.

Scott’s major breakthrough came at the 2013 Masters, while Harrington has three majors to his name, including back-to-back Open Championships.

Over the last year or so, Scott’s surge in ball speed has caught the attention of fans and fellow players alike.

The same goes for Harrington, who has been one of the longest hitters on any tour despite being well into his 50s.

He has led the driving distance charts on that circuit for four straight years, regularly averaging more than 300 yards off the tee.

Remarkably, both Scott and Harrington have managed to increase their length in their mid-40s and mid-50s, respectively, surpassing the distances they achieved during their prime years.

It is clear that Scott and Harrington have not just relied on natural talent to increase their ball speed later in their careers – it has taken a lot of effort behind the scenes.

On Friday, Greg Norman Jr. shared an interesting bit of information he had come across about Harrington.

“Incredible golf fact I learned yesterday from legend Olin Browne,” Norman Jr. wrote.

“Pretty much everyone knows 45 year old Aussie Adam Scott is reaching close to 190 ball speed, but what’s really amazing, 54 year old Padraig Harrington is hitting 190 ball speed on the reg.”

Harrington has put in serious work to boost his speed, but hitting 190 mph regularly at 54 seems unlikely. Even approaching those numbers would be quite an achievement at his age.

The current PGA Tour leader in average ball speed is Gary Woodland, clocking in at 188.31 mph with his driver.

This season, Adam Scott’s average sits at 183.84 mph, so anything above that would be remarkable for someone in their mid-50s.

If Harrington manages to maintain an average over even 170 mph this season, it would be a real testament to how well he has kept up physically over the years.
