Groundbreaking new kidney transplant process rolled out on NHS

  • The NHS is rolling out a double matching blood process nationwide to reduce the risk of organ rejection in kidney transplant patients.
  • Under the new system, scientists will align white blood cells as closely as possible in addition to matching traditional blood types.

  • The move aims to address antibody risks from blood transfusions and reduce the waiting list, which currently exceeds 7,300 people.
