KUALA LUMPUR - Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air has opened bookings for direct flights between Bahrain International Airport (BAH) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), commencing on Sept 29, 2026, to strengthen links between the two countries.

In a statement, Gulf Air said flight bookings are now available via gulfair.com, the Gulf Air mobile application or through authorised travel agents.

The airline said the addition of Kuala Lumpur as a permanent destination marks another important milestone in Gulf Air’s network strategy, offering passengers direct access to one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic destinations.

Moreover, the airline said it will operate an enhanced flight schedule to Kuala Lumpur in the lead-up to the Formula 1 (F1) Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix race weekend, to provide additional capacity and flexibility for fans and travellers attending the event.

On July 26, F1 and the International Automobile Federation (FIA) confirmed that Malaysia would host the race at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) from Oct 2-4, 2026, subject to the signing of a final agreement and the necessary approvals, including from the World Motor Sport Council.

The race is scheduled to take place between the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and the Singapore Grand Prix on the F1 calendar.

Gulf Air said the flight service will continue as part of its permanent network, operating on a regular schedule to support connectivity between the two nations.

Gulf Air chief executive officer Martin Gauss said adding Kuala Lumpur as a permanent destination further strengthens its network and supports year-round connectivity between Bahrain and Malaysia, and beyond.

"As title sponsor of the F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2026 in Malaysia, we are proud to connect fans and travellers to this world-class event through our new direct service to Kuala Lumpur," he added.

Gulf Air fleet comprises 10 Boeing 787 and 34 Airbus A320/A321 aircraft. - BERNAMA
