In a bid to improve road infrastructure and strengthen monsoon preparedness, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has awarded the contract for the special repair and upgradation of the 2.1-km service road along the Sector 51–52 dividing master road, with the project slated for completion within six months.
The project will focus on repairing and strengthening the existing service road to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce congestion on the adjoining main carriageway. Officials said the upgrade is aimed at providing a safer and more convenient commuting experience for thousands of residents and motorists who use the corridor daily.
Alongside road repairs, GMDA will also undertake extensive improvements to pedestrian infrastructure. Footpaths along the stretch will be repaired and upgraded to facilitate safer pedestrian movement, while hedges and protective grills will be installed to improve both safety and the overall appearance of the corridor.
A key component of the project is the development of an enhanced drainage system to tackle waterlogging during the monsoon season. The authority plans to improve rainwater discharge by lowering adjoining green belts at suitable locations, enabling better drainage, natural water percolation and groundwater recharge.
Road safety infrastructure, including fresh road markings, signage and other traffic safety measures, will also be incorporated as part of the project.
GMDA officials said the initiative has been designed as a comprehensive corridor improvement project addressing road quality, pedestrian facilities and stormwater management in an integrated manner.
“Once completed, the upgraded stretch will provide smoother travel, safer pedestrian movement and improved drainage facilities for residents and commuters,” officials said.
In a parallel move, the GMDA has also awarded annual maintenance contracts for its road network across Sectors 1 to 23. The works will include routine maintenance and timely repairs throughout the year to ensure roads remain in good condition and safe for commuters.
Officials said the maintenance programme is intended to enhance road safety, improve driving comfort and provide residents with a more reliable transport network across older sectors of the city.
The latest projects form part of the GMDA’s ongoing efforts to upgrade urban infrastructure, improve road safety and address recurring drainage challenges ahead of the monsoon season.
