The Special Task Force (STF), Gurugram, has arrested Gurpreet, the alleged kingpin of a heroin smuggling network linked to two major drug seizures with a combined estimated international value of Rs 285 crore between November 2025 and May 2026.

Gurpreet was arrested in Rohtak on Saturday and produced before a court in Bhiwani, which remanded him in four-day police custody.

A senior STF official said investigators were gathering information from the accused regarding other members of the drug trafficking network.

According to the STF, a team led by Sub-Inspector Vivek Kumar seized 8.940-kg heroin in the Bhiwani area on May 21 and arrested an alleged drug smuggler, Rohit. The seized contraband is estimated to have an international market value of around Rs 35 crore.

During interrogation, Rohit allegedly disclosed that his elder brother, Gurpreet, a resident of Pirawali village in Hisar district, operated a drug smuggling racket along with one Rajendra, a resident of Kul Gehna village in Ludhiana.

The STF said both Gurpreet and Rajendra were also named in a 50-kg heroin smuggling case registered in SAS Nagar, Punjab, on November 21, 2025. The heroin consignment seized in that case was estimated to have an international value of around Rs 250 crore.

The police said raids had been conducted across Haryana and Punjab in an effort to trace the main accused.

“Acting on specific intelligence about the accused’s presence in Rohtak, a raid was conducted and Gurpreet was arrested. He had been absconding for the past eight months. Based on his interrogation and human intelligence inputs, other suspects involved in heroin smuggling in Haryana and Punjab have been identified and will be arrested soon,” said Preetpal Singh Sangwan, DSP of the Gurugram STF.
