The Gurugram unit of the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) has arrested an alleged drug smuggler and seized a commercial quantity of banned narcotic medicines, including 120 psychotropic tablets and 12 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, during a targeted operation based on intelligence inputs.
The action was carried out as part of the state-wide anti-drug campaign being conducted under the directions of HSNCB Chief and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Sanjay Kumar.
The ADGP reiterated that eliminating drug networks remains the bureau’s top priority.
According to Inspector Sandeep Kumar, in-charge of HSNCB Gurugram Unit, ASI Kapil Kumar received specific intelligence that a suspected drug supplier, identified as Neeraj, would arrive near Palm Road close to Emaar Society in a white Haryana-registered Maruti Brezza, carrying prohibited medicines for distribution.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, an HSNCB team laid a trap at the identified location and intercepted the vehicle. The search was conducted in the presence of a gazetted officer as per legal procedure.
During the search, officials recovered 120 psychotropic tablets, including 30 Diazepam tablets, 60 Alprazolam tablets and 30 Lorazepam tablets. In addition, the team seized 12 bottles of codeine syrup weighing approximately 1,400 grams. The total recovery falls under the commercial quantity category under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The accused was identified as Neeraj Tanwar, son of Ramesh Chand and a resident of Lalwa village in Palwal district.
Police produced the accused before a court and obtained his remand for further interrogation.
Investigators are now probing the source of the contraband and attempting to identify other members of the drug trafficking network linked to the accused.
HSNCB officials said the bureau remains committed to cracking down on narcotics trafficking and urged citizens to cooperate in the fight against drugs.
