The Special Task Force (STF), Gurugram, arrested a drug smuggler in Bhiwani and recovered 8.94 kg of heroin from his possession. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth Rs 36 crore in the international market.
According to the STF, the accused was identified as Rohit, a resident of Indira Colony in Bhiwani. Acting on a tip-off, an STF team led by Sub-Inspector Vivek Sharma conducted a raid with the Bhiwani police in the presence of a duty magistrate on Friday.
During the search at Rohit’s house, the heroin was recovered from a cupboard. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had brought the drugs from Punjab for supply in Haryana.
“During preliminary investigation, it emerged that the accused had been involved in drug trafficking for some time. This is the first case registered against him. Earlier, his brother was also found involved in drug smuggling. A case was registered against him in Punjab and he was declared a fugitive by a court,” said Preetpal Singh Sangwan, DSP, STF Gurugram.
He added that this was the second major drug haul by the STF in Haryana. Earlier, the STF had recovered 12 kg of heroin. The accused is a native of Piranwali village in Hisar, where several people are allegedly involved in the drug trade. Further questioning is underway, he said.
