England’s World Cup squad will not be revealed until Friday, but some of Thomas Tuchel’s biggest selection calls are already coming to light.
Since taking charge, the German coach has tested a wide pool of players, leaving fans and analysts guessing over several open spots.
One of those questions appears to have been answered early, with Harry Maguire confirming he has been left out.
Harry Maguire shares England World Cup disappointment

Maguire took to social media on Thursday after learning he would not be part of Tuchel’s plans for the tournament.
“I was confident I could of played (sic) a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision,” the Manchester United centre-back wrote.
“I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years. I wish the players all the best this summer.”
It is a tough blow for a player who has been a key figure in England’s recent tournament runs.
Maguire’s omission also shows how ruthless Tuchel is prepared to be, even with players who have carried major responsibility in previous England sides.
According to BBC Sport, Manchester City’s Phil Foden is another high-profile Premier League star expected to miss out.
Despite registering ten goals and seven assists in 49 appearances this season, the 25-year-old endured an inconsistent campaign and is unlikely to make Tuchel’s squad.
Real Madrid right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is another established England star at risk of being left out of the squad.
