Gye Worthy charged with assault after incident at A66 victim’s funeral

  • A 39-year-old man named Gye Worthy has been charged with common assault, a public order offence, and obstructing police following a disturbance at a funeral.
  • The incident occurred at Teesside Crematorium during the service for 17-year-old Cole Worthy, who died in a head-on collision on the A66 last month.
  • The crash claimed the lives of five young men and two police officers in Middlesbrough when a car travelling on the wrong side of the road struck a police vehicle.
  • Following the arrest, the service resumed with Cleveland Police officers remaining in the area to provide reassurance.
  • Gye Worthy is scheduled to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court on 2 October.
