THE partnership between the Valenzuela City government and Habitat for Humanity Philippines has resulted in the provision of at least 26 housing units to beneficiary families in Barangay Mapulang Lupa.
Mayor Wes Gatchalian thanked Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization dedicated to building safe, decent homes for families and communities in need, for the collaboration that directly benefited his poor constituents.
This marks another milestone in the city government’s continuing commitment to inclusive housing and sustainable community development, Gatchalian said.
He reminded the beneficiaries from the Samahang Nagkakaisang Kapatiran ng Mapulang Lupa (SNKMKL) to maintain the orderliness of the Ameya Homes.
Under the partnership, the local government provided public property for the housing development, and Habitat, through its donors and partners, funded and constructed the housing units.
Aside from the housing units, the private organization also donated a two-story multi-purpose building intended to serve as a venue for homeowners’ association activities, meetings and community programs.
Meanwhile, Gatchalian said the local government funded and implemented P7.6 million worth of land development works, including the construction of roads, drainage systems and perimeter fences to ensure a safer, more functional and livable environment for residents.
For decades, SNKMKL members lived in challenging conditions without secure tenure, making them vulnerable to various social and environmental risks, this newspaper was told.
“Through the housing project, beneficiary families are now provided with safer and more stable homes within a developed community,” Gatchalian reiterated.
Apart from housing initiatives, the city government has also established several public facilities in the area, including a three-story center, a school complex, and a public library, further strengthening access to essential government and educational services for residents, he added.
The mayor tasked the city’s Housing and Resettlement Office to oversee and monitor the community and residents to ensure proper maintenance, organization and sustainability of the housing project.
