TAMBUNAN: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has expressed confidence that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition will be entrusted with a renewed mandate in the 17th State Election, citing strong public sentiment for local parties to lead the government.
Hajiji, who also chairs GRS, said the coalition comprises eight local parties, including Parti Solidariti Tanahairku (Star), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Parti Gagasan Rakyat, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Parti Harapan Sabah, United Sabah National Organisation (Usno), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).
Speaking at the Yayasan Sabah with the People Roadshow (YSBR) 2025 in Pisompuruan Square, he described the coalition as the hope of the State and urged leaders and members in Tambunan to rally behind Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.
Hajiji said the GRS-led government had delivered progress over the past five years through a focus on agriculture, industry and tourism, which has strengthened Sabah’s economy.
He highlighted the revival of the Sabah Padi and Rice Board, with a target of achieving 60 per cent food self-sufficiency by 2030, alongside major industrial investments such as the RM31 billion commitment from a Singapore company that will generate jobs and revenue.
On welfare, Hajiji said the State Government had extended RM300 monthly assistance to 100,000 poor and hardcore poor people, spent RM1.4 billion in aid for 70,000 recipients, and allocated RM1.33 billion for human capital development in education.
He urged voters to consider the track record of the current administration and reminded them of the importance of choosing leaders who could continue building on the foundations laid in recent years.
