KUALA LUMPUR – Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has dismissed opposition claims that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government has failed to administer the state, calling such accusations baseless and politically motivated.

“Have we failed with the record and achievements we have accomplished? Have we failed when we have done our utmost for the people of Sabah?” Hajiji said at the launch of the GRS election machinery in Kota Kinabalu today.

He said GRS’s track record over the past five years proved its ability to govern effectively and drive economic progress, with record state revenues and growth across the industrial, tourism, and agricultural sectors.

These, he said, were outcomes of the Sabah Maju Jaya development blueprint, which continues to guide the state’s long-term policies.

“At the same time, various education and human capital development initiatives continue to be strengthened, while welfare assistance has been expanded to ensure the well-being of the people of Sabah remains protected,” he added.

Addressing persistent infrastructure issues, Hajiji said the state government was prioritising solutions to water, road, and electricity challenges.

He noted that 18 water projects are currently underway, including the Tawau Water Dam Project, the Kogopon 2 Water Treatment Plant in Papar, and the Kabang Intake Upgrade Project, expected to be completed next year.

He said the state was also working closely with the federal government to ensure the Pan Borneo Highway and federal road maintenance projects stay on schedule, with Phase 1B of the highway currently being implemented.

In the energy sector, Hajiji highlighted the Ulu Padas Hydropower Dam Project in Tenom and the RM765 million Southern Link Project, announced by the prime minister, as key steps towards strengthening Sabah’s power supply, particularly in the east coast.

The chief minister also underscored Sabah’s growing stake in the oil and gas industry through the Commercial Collaboration Agreement (CCA) with Petronas, which he said allows the state to move beyond dependence on royalties and sales tax to direct participation in the value chain.

“With this agreement, Sabah now enjoys direct revenue, job opportunities, and economic spillovers through local company involvement,” Hajiji said.

He also thanked the federal government for its continued support, including efforts to uphold Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Hajiji said GRS’s achievements extended beyond the economy, citing the issuance of land titles through the PANTAS programme and the gazetting of dozens of new village reserves as part of his administration’s efforts to strengthen rural development. — October 19, 2025
