Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Hajiji is also pleased that efforts to pursue and claim Sabah’s rights under the 1963 Malaysia Agreement (MA63) have shown a lot of progress since taking over the reins of government.
He said at the MA63 meeting in Kuching on Jan. 20, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim personally told him that it was unfair that the Borneo states, namely Sabah and Sarawak, did not get what they deserved.
Hajiji said the Prime Minister has announced that all outstanding issues in MA63 have passed the discussion process and are now in the implementation stage.
“The only pending issue at the moment is about the technical aspect and we will work with the Federal Government to ensure that all claims are expedited.
“The latest, we will see the handover of electricity regulatory powers to Sabah to go smoothly on January 1, 2024, to enable Sabah to establish its own Electricity Commission.”
Touching on the achievements of the GRS State Government, Hajiji said within two years of taking over the reins of government, there were many successes that gave the best to the people and the State, among which was the signing of the Commercial Collaboration Agreement (CCA) with Petronas based on the principle of “Greater Say, Greater Participation and Greater Revenue” to develop the oil and gas industry in Sabah.
“Since the signing of this agreement, we have signed several more important agreements including the supply of natural gas to Sabah Energy Corporation Sdn Bhd (SEC), making SEC the largest supplier and transporter of domestic natural gas in Sabah.
“In addition, Sabah will also acquire a 25 per cent participation interest in the Sabah Ammonia Urea petrochemical plant (SAMUR) and early last February, we signed two agreements namely, one regarding the back-in option Production Sharing Contract of oil and gas wells that give the Sabah State Government up to 20 per cent participation interests and secondly, the 50 per cent participation interests in the Samarang oil and gas wells.
“We will continue our efforts to get more participation interests with Petronas,” he stressed.
