TUARAN: Caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, also GRS chairman, said the move to increase parliamentary seats in Sabah and Sarawak aligns with the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

He said MA63 provides for both Borneo states to hold at least one-third of the seats in Parliament, a point he raised after meeting the Sulaman GRS election machinery in Kampung Lok Batik here.

Hajiji welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement that the Federal Government has agreed in principle to expand parliamentary representation for both states.

He said the demand is longstanding and noted that the size and population growth of constituencies such as Kinabatangan and Tuaran make additional seats necessary.

He added that the commitment shown by the Federal Government is appreciated and timely.
