SEPANG: Malaysia’s young and talented rider, Muhammad Hakim Danish Ramli, says he never expected to deliver such an impressive performance in his debut appearance at the Moto3 World Championship during the 2025 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) here on Friday.
Speaking after the practice session, the AEON Credit SIC Racing MSI rider said he was now determined to record his best lap time during today’s (Saturday) qualifying session as he aimed to start among the front pack for Sunday’s main race.
“For the first day, Alhamdulillah, I didn’t expect to achieve such a result. Each lap, I stayed focused and kept pushing to be in the top position.
“For tomorrow’s qualifying, I need to improve my lap time so it’ll be easier to start in front during the race (on Sunday)... I’ll go full gas tomorrow,” he said.
Although he declined to reveal his specific target for the qualifying session, the 18-year-old rider said he would give his all to challenge the top contenders in Moto3.
Racing as a wildcard entry, Hakim Danish earlier finished eighth overall out of 27 riders in Free Practice 1 with a lap time of 2 minutes 11.317 seconds, while Frinsa-MT Helmets-MSI rider Angel Piqueras topped the session with 2:10.979s.
The Terengganu-born racer later clocked 2:11.820s in the second practice session, behind Jose Antonio Rueda, who recorded the fastest time of 2:11.152s.
