Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi, who is facing rape allegations in France, has filed an appeal after an earlier attempt to overturn an investigating judge's decision was unsuccessful.
French broadcaster BFMTV reported on Saturday that the footballer was going to a higher court after losing an appeal over the decision to refer him for a criminal trial.
The Paris Saint-Germain defender is accused of raping a woman in his apartment in Paris in 2023. The 27-year-old, who is playing at the World Cup in North America, has denied the allegations and says he has been falsely accused.
A court of appeal upheld the decision to refer him to a criminal court.
He said recently during the World Cup, where his team face the Netherlands in the first knock-out round on Monday, that he was eagerly awaiting the trial so he could tell his side of the story.
Hakimi, a twice Champions League winner with PSG and a key player for Morocco, has not been given a trial date yet.
