
- Parents of under-18s are projected to spend an average of 88 hours on unintended phone scrolling during the summer holidays, a new survey suggests.
- More than half (56 per cent) of children aged eight to 16 reported that their parents' phone use causes them to miss important family moments, with 63 per cent believing parents do not realise the extent of their device usage.
- An 18-month study by Virgin Media O2 revealed that parents of under-18s spend over two hours daily using their smartphones unintentionally, significantly more than non-parents, with half admitting little to no control over their phone use.
- More than three-quarters of parents (76 per cent) frequently pick up their phone without thinking, and nearly half (48 per cent) check their device 30 or more times a day without a specific reason.
- Virgin Media O2 has launched a “digital intentionality score” tool to help people understand their phone usage habits, acknowledging that many digital services are designed to keep users engaged.
