OPPOSITION leader, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, did not attend the special Perikatan Nasional (PN) meeting at the PAS headquarters this evening.
It is understood that his absence was due to his previous expulsion from Bersatu.
A PN source told Berita Harian that Hamzah did not attend as he was not invited.
The special PN meeting, scheduled to be held immediately after the PN Presidential Council Meeting, is attended by the presidents of the four PN component parties.
Apart from Bersatu President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, also present were PAS President, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang; Gerakan President, Dominic Lau and Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP) President, P Punithan.
Also listed to attend today's meeting are PN Women's Chief, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsuddin; PN Youth Chief, Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamuddin and PN Election Director-General, Datuk Seri Muhamad Sanusi Mohd Nor.
The line-up of PN Supreme Council members scheduled to attend is Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee; Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin; Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man; Oh Tong Keong; Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu; Datuk Idris Ahmad; Wong Chia Zhen; S Subramaniam; and K Sivakumar.
Ronald, however, was not present after he was dropped from the list of Bersatu leaders who are members of the PN Supreme Council and his position was replaced by Radzi.
This evening's special meeting is expected to focus on validating the issue of Muhyiddin's resignation as PN Chairman, and if agreed, will be followed by the appointment of a new PN Chairman.
So far, the agenda of electing the leader of the opposition in Parliament is also expected in the meeting, but the decision still depends on the agreement and consensus of all the opposition bloc's Members of Parliament.
PAS currently has the largest number of Members of Parliament, with 43, followed by 25 Bersatu MPs, now split into two groups, which support Muhyiddin and Hamzah. – February 22, 2026
