
Kota Kinabalu: The Han Loong Sabah Taekwondo Club made a significant mark at the 6th Republic of Korea Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship held in Brunei Darussalam at the Indoor Stadium, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex from August 7-9.
The team represented by 18 athletes won a total of 25 medals with four gold, four silver, and eight bronze medals in poomsae, and five golds, two silvers and two bronzes in kyorugi.
The gold medal winners in the poomsae discipline were Aleister Ng (male individual 9–11), Calestyne Christina (female individual 12–14), Constantine Kong (male individual 12–14), and Noah Gabril with Allyson Ong (mixed doubles 15–17).
The silvers came from Noah Gabril: Male individual (15–17 years), Constantine and Calestyne: Mixed pair (12–14 years), Aleister and Daphne Koay: Mixed pair (9–11 years) and the Girls’ Team: Elsa Koay, Daphne and Ivory (12–14 years), while the bronze medals were delivered by Keisha Koay: Girls’ individual (6–8 years), Anis Zaliska Abdul Manuf: Girls’ individual (9–11 years), Elsa Koay: Girls’ individual (9–11 years), Daphne Koay: Girls’ individual (12–14 years), Allyson Koay: Girls’ individual (15–17 years), Leona Anne Andy: Girls’ individual (18–30 years), Mohd Danis: Male individual (18–30 years) and Mohd Danis and Leona Anne Andy: Mixed pair (18–30 years).
In the kyorugi competition, the five who captured gold medals were Vernice Kung (female bantamweight, 9–11 years, 21–24kg), Mason Kung (male bantamweight, 12–14 years, 45–49kg), Javier Koay (male lightweight, 12–14 years, 45–49kg), Mavric Kung (male flyweight, 15–17 years, 45–49kg), and Allyson Ng (female flyweight, 15–17 years, 42–44kg).
The silver medallists were Constantine (male welterweight, 12–14 years, 53–57kg) and Maxim Kung (male featherweight, 12–14 years, 26–29kg), while Ivory (female lightweight, 12–14 years, 41–44kg) and Mohd Danis (male featherweight, 15–17 years, 48–51kg) took home bronze.
In addition, Aleister Ng was also named best player in the tournament, while the contingent led by Master Ervin Ambu and Emmanuel Siaw (coach) emerged as runners-up in the poomsae discipline and third place in kyorugi.
Meanwhile, club advisor Roger Chaw shared that this marked the team’s second competition in a fortnight, coming off the MBW International Taekwondo Championship 2026 in Negeri Sembilan with a haul of nine gold, three silver, and five bronze medals.
