Almost three decades since popularising the ‘Happy Gilmore swing’, comedian and actor Adam Sandler has returned for a second shot at golf. Netflix’s hotly anticipated sequel Happy Gilmore 2 dropped on July 25, 2025, instantly spawning a plethora of golf accessories and merch collections. Here are our favourites to shop today.
It’s rare enough that golf and film intersect, and even more so when it culminates in a cult favourite beloved by audiences from all walks of life. Leveraging his distinct brand of humour alongside his prowess for blending solemn with slapstick, Adam Sandler returns as the eponymous lead character of the film, Happy Gilmore.
The show, which picks up three decades after the events of the original film, follows Sandler’s Happy, now retired from the sport, as he attempts to stage a comeback to finance his daughter’s dreams of becoming a dancer. Filled with celebrity cameos and top golfers from within the professional golfing tour circuits, Happy Gilmore 2 is a fun, feisty watch that bridges the best of its predecessor with the modern climate surrounding pro golf today.
Reviews have been polarising to say the least. However, Happy Gilmore 2 has netted average ratings. Of note, it has a 63 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.2/10 on IMDb, placing it firmly in range with the original.
While golf fans who know the game inside and out may find elements of the movie fanciful and unbelievable, the movie manages to introduce adequate measures to fuel suspension of belief. No, we don’t really think bodily ‘augmentations’ can help with a golf swing. But is the movie entertaining, in spite of? Yes.
The crux of the film sees Happy and several other pro golfers (including World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, and Justin Thomas) scrambling to defend traditional golf against a new format championed by the fictional Maxi League.
While this storyline is a little on the nose, considering the ongoing controversy surrounding the PGA Tour’s tousle with LIV Golf, it made for a highly enjoyable watch. To wit: Happy GIlmore 2 shattered Netflix records on release week and now holds the record for the biggest U.S. opening weekend for a film with 46.7 million views.
