I would like to share my wonderful memories of celebrating the Lunar New Year. Chinese believe that the Chinese New Year is a very important day. Every New Year, our family will wear red clothes to take a beautiful family portrait together, and at the same time, we will also wish our family and friends a Happy Chinese New Year.
During Chinese New Year's Eve, our family would gather around to have a reunion dinner, enjoy delicious food and spend moments of joy and sweetness together.
When comes to Chinese New Year, the Chinese will purchase mandarin oranges or kumquats from the market. This is because the orange symbolizes good luck, wealth and prosperity. Therefore, you will see that people are buying boxes of mandarin oranges before Chinese New Year. The Chinese will also gift mandarin oranges to friends and family when they visit others. The Chinese believe visiting others empty-handed is not good. Thus, the Chinese will bring along with mandarin oranges as a gift when they visit others during Chinese New Year.
The streets are filled with the sound of firecrackers and crowds watching dragon and lion dances. In ancient times, the Chinese believes that the sound of firecrackers and lion dances would scare away monsters and bring good luck. It is an indispensable traditional festival event for the Chinese New Year every year.
During the Chinese New Year, I will also prepare red envelopes (ang pow) for my parents and children to wish my family to have a stroke of good luck in the new year.
In addition, we must pay off all debts before Chinese New Year's Eve, and it is not advisable to borrow money during Chinese New Year. Expenses should be managed wisely during the Lunar New Year, otherwise, your pockets will be empty.
