The Chinese community will celebrate 人日 (Ren Ri) on the seventh day of the Chinese New Year, which falls on January 28 (Saturday) this year.
Besides families celebrating Ren Ri dinners, companies will also pick this day to have gatherings. This is because Ren Ri, which falls on the seventh day of the first month in the traditional Chinese calendar is (according to Chinese mythology) the day when human beings were created. In brief, the seventh day of the Lunar New Year is every person's birthday.
Yee Sang or Yu Sheng is traditionally served on this day. The "prosperity raw fish salad" will see diners gathering together to toss the salad as high as they could, and usually uttering good wishes out loud while they're at it. In case you're wondering why the diners are tossing the salad with such enthusiasm, it is because the height of the toss is said to reflect the height of one's growth in fortune.

Called the "Ren Ri Chinese Set Menu", the dinner on Saturday (January 28) is priced at RM1,288 nett per table of 10 guests. Diners will also be treated to live entertainment which includes a lion dance which is believed to attract abundant blessings and chase away evil spirits.
