Kota Kinabalu: A 38-year-old man was fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here on Thursday for harbouring two illegal immigrants at a premises in Keningau.
Yue Weng Fei pleaded guilty before Judge Hurman Hussain to two counts of allowing two Indonesian men, aged 48 and 29, to enter and remain at the premises under his control.
The offences were committed at Thong Leep Engineering Work, Kg Durok, Jalan Nabawan, Keningau, at about 10.20am on Nov 5, 2025.
The charges were framed under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, punishable under Section 55E(2) of the same Act.
Yue was fined RM5,000, or three months’ jail, for each immigrant.
Unrepresented, Yue appealed for a lower fine, saying he was married and had two children.
Immigration Prosecuting Officer Mohd Sharifuddin Salim applied for a deterrent sentence.
In another case, two foreign men were penalised for staying illegally in Malaysia.
Chin Yihui, 44, was fined RM5,000, or four months’ jail, after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence at about 10.30pm on Aug 20 at the Inanam North City Bus Terminal area here.
Counsel Luke Ressa Balang, representing Chin, requested the minimum fine, saying it was his first offence and that he was married with four children.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old deaf and mute man, Kamarudin Din, was jailed for four months after pleading guilty to a similar offence.
The offence was committed at about 9.30am on July 14 this year at the Kepayan Central Lock-up compound here.
The charge was read to Kamarudin through a sign-language interpreter.
Chin and Kamarudin were charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, punishable under Section 6(3) of the same Act.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Deanivo Sittin applied for deterrent sentences and for both Chin and Kamarudin to be referred to the Immigration Department.
The court ordered both men to be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.
