Kota Kinabalu: Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Salleh said the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) was passed by Parliament in 1974 and that as part of the Malaysian Federation, both Sabah and Sarawak are party to the decision that passed this Act.
“Parliament is supreme and an institution in the Federation. Legally as far as the Constitution is concerned, it is ‘fait accompli’. That is the law and must be enforced.
“The Petronas Agreement was merely a good gesture by Petronas. There is no provision in the Petroleum Development Act that Petronas legally must pay five per cent (5pc) or 20pc to any state. That is all,” he said.
