Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of those killed in the devastating fire that gutted more than 10 shops at D-Park market area here on Tuesday.
The Chief Minister also announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for each injured person and said that the Haryana government would ensure free medical treatment for all injured at government hospitals.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident, Saini conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and directed the Rohtak Deputy Comissioner to assess the losses caused by the fire and prepare a detailed report for further action.
Three persons were charred to death in the blaze, which also destroyed several vehicles, mostly two-wheelers parked outside the shops. While the victims have not yet been officially identified, their family members have identified them as Kapil, Aman and Saurabh.
The bodies were recovered from the debris after firefighters brought the blaze under control. Post-mortem examinations are scheduled to be conducted at PGIMS, Rohtak, on Wednesday.
Although the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, eyewitnesses claimed it started after an explosion in an air-conditioner compressor inside a showroom. The flames quickly spread to adjoining shops, engulfing a large section of the market within minutes.
Firefighting teams battled the blaze for more than six hours before bringing it under control. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident and assessing the extent of the damage.
“We pray for the speedy recovery of those injured and assure full support from the state government during this difficult time. The government remains committed to extending all possible assistance to the affected families,” Saini said.
Meanwhile, Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda reached the spot and urged the state government to provide jobs to the families of the deceased and compensate affected shopkeepers for the damage to their buildings, shops and goods. He also demanded adequate compensation for the injured and a thorough investigation into the incident to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
