More than 10 shops were destroyed in a massive fire that broke out in the D-Park area of Rohtak city on Tuesday, triggering panic among shopkeepers and residents. Teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and district administration rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Two to three people were believed to be trapped inside the shops, though no official confirmation was available at the time of filing this report.
Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda, IGP Simardeep Singh, DC Sachin Gupta, ADC Narendra Kumar, and SP Gaurav Rajpurohit reached the site and monitored rescue and firefighting operations.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire reportedly started in a shoe showroom in the afternoon and quickly spread to adjoining shops, engulfing the market within minutes. Shopkeepers and customers raised an alarm, leading to chaos as people rushed out to safety. Locals initially tried to control the blaze, but their efforts failed due to the intensity of the fire.
Fire tenders soon arrived and began operations, but the flames had already spread rapidly through multiple establishments. Additional fire tenders were called in from nearby districts as the fire spread. Shopkeepers at nearby establishments were also seen hurriedly moving their goods, fearing further spread of the fire.
After nearly four hours of continuous efforts, fire personnel brought the blaze under control.
“The fire is now under control. The exact cause is yet to be ascertained. Our priority was to bring the situation under control. Fire tenders had to be called from neighbouring districts due to the severity of the incident,” IG Simardeep Singh told mediapersons on the occasion.
MP Deepender Hooda called the incident unfortunate.
