The Haryana government has introduced a new online mechanism to correct discrepancies in the Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) database, addressing the long-standing public grievances related to incorrect family records.
The PPP, a flagship initiative of the Haryana government, is a unified digital database of families in the state. It is widely used to streamline the delivery of government schemes, subsidies and welfare benefits by linking them directly to verified households.
However, over time, several complaints have emerged regarding inaccuracies in the database, particularly the inclusion of unrelated or unidentified individuals in family records.
Dr Satish Khola, state coordinator for PPP, said complaints were received for a considerable period about incorrect names being included to the family identity records.
Even after identification, removing such names proved complicated due to technical limitations in the existing system.
These discrepancies not only led to confusion but also caused inconvenience and delays in accessing government services, as benefits are often calculated based on family composition reflected in the PPP database.
To address these challenges by simplifying the correction mechanism, the government has now upgraded the “Delete Unwanted Member” module, making the process more efficient, transparent and user-friendly. Under this enhanced system, citizens can initiate requests to remove unknown or wrongly added individuals from their family records through an online application.
The new process eliminates the need for physical visits to government offices, thereby reducing administrative burden and saving citizens time and effort.
Dr Khola emphasised that the introduction of this upgraded system will significantly reduce the need for citizens to visit government offices repeatedly. It is expected to streamline grievance resolution and ensure faster correction of errors in the PPP database.
The move is a significant step towards strengthening the integrity of Haryana’s digital governance framework. By ensuring accurate family data, the government aims to improve the targeting of welfare schemes and eliminate misuse or errors arising from faulty records.
Step-by-step process for online application
Under the revised framework:
Citizens must first select the relevant PPP ID linked to their family.
Once selected, the portal will display a list of associated families, along with the name of the head of the family and the last four digits of their registered mobile number.
This feature enables users to easily identify the correct family record.
An OTP (One-Time Password) will then be sent to the registered mobile number of the family head for authentication.
After OTP verification, the application is automatically forwarded to the concerned Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) for approval.
The ADC will review the request and after due verification, approve the removal of the incorrectly added individual.
