
Hockey Chandigarh president Karan Gilhotra has formally invited Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh to attend the International Olympic Day celebrations as the chief guest on June 23, at the Sector 42 hockey stadium.
During the meeting, Gilhotra briefed the Governor about the Chandigarh Senior Men’s and Women’s Hockey Championship 2026, to be organised by Hockey Chandigarh, as well as the Olympic Day celebrations. He informed him that the championship would be held from June 17 to 23 under the guidelines of Hockey India and conclude with the final matches and a special felicitation ceremony on June 23.
Meanwhile, Gilhotra said that International Olympics Day aimed to inspire young people to take up sports and promote the core Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect. The occasion will also witness the felicitation of Olympians, international players, technical officials, umpires and dedicated members of Hockey Chandigarh for their outstanding contributions to the sport.
The Governor accepted the invitation and conveyed his best wishes for the successful conduct of the event. He emphasised the importance of sports in the overall development of youth and praised initiatives that encouraged greater participation in sporting activities.
