Haryana has registered nearly one FIR every day involving commercial quantities of narcotics and arrested an average of three drug traffickers daily over the past six years as part of an intensified campaign against organised drug networks.

The Haryana Police registered 2,353 FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act involving commercial quantities of drugs between 2020 and 2025, leading to the arrest of 6,256 accused persons. During the same period, authorities also seized, froze or attached properties worth Rs 72.70 crore allegedly acquired through the illegal drug trade.

The figures were shared by ADGP and chief of the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau, Sanjay Kumar, during a statewide review meeting chaired by DGP Ajay Singhal. The meeting was attended by senior police officers, including ADGPs, IGs, Police Commissioners and SPs.

Highlighting the intensified focus on major traffickers, Sanjay Kumar informed the meeting that between 2021 and 2025 alone, Haryana Police registered 1,876 FIRs involving commercial quantities of narcotics and arrested 3,151 Haryana-based accused persons.

To curb the activities of habitual and organised drug offenders, preventive action under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act was initiated against 156 accused. Property attachment proceedings were also launched against 432 persons allegedly involved in drug trafficking, targeting assets believed to have been acquired through proceeds of the illegal trade.

The meeting was further informed that details of 321 Haryana-based accused arrested in commercial quantity NDPS cases in other states between 2021 and 2025 had been shared with district police units for monitoring and verification.

Officials said 156 detention orders have been issued under the PIT-NDPS Act, 1988, against repeat and organised drug traffickers. The move is aimed at preventing such offenders from continuing their involvement in narcotics smuggling and dismantling networks operating across the state.

During the meeting, Special Officer for Community Policing and Outreach and IG, Ambala Range, Pankaj Nain presented the framework of the proposed Uday Haryana Programme. He said a statewide Drug-Free Haryana campaign would soon be launched, involving awareness and outreach activities aimed at promoting a drug-free society.

While chairing the meeting, DGP Ajay Singhal stressed the need for a more coordinated and sustained campaign against narcotics trafficking.
