The devastating fire at D-Park that claimed three lives and destroyed over 10 shops has prompted the Rohtak district administration to strengthen fire safety measures across commercial establishments to prevent similar incidents.

Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta has directed officials to convene meetings with traders in all grain markets and ensure that every shop is equipped with a fire extinguisher. He also instructed that 10 to 15 fire extinguishers be kept at each Market Committee office to enable a quick response during emergencies.

The DC further asked the District Food and Supplies Controller to ensure the installation of fire extinguishers at all petrol pumps and public distribution system (PDS) shops across the district.

The directions were issued during a review meeting on infrastructure and preparedness in the Rohtak, Meham, Sampla and Kalanaur grain markets ahead of the forthcoming crop procurement season.

Gupta also reviewed the condition of roads, sewerage networks, stormwater drainage, digital weighbridges, water disposal systems, pumps and lighting facilities in the mandis.

He said a new drinking water pipeline would be laid in Rohtak Mandi at a cost of Rs 1.3 crore, with work scheduled to commence next Friday. He directed officials of the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board to complete the project within a month while maintaining quality standards.

“Quality should be ensured in the special repair works of three roads being undertaken at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore, and the works should be completed before the onset of the monsoon season. The Board will spend around Rs 8 crore on the special repair of eight roads in the district, for which tenders have already been invited,” he informed.

The DC added that the Board maintains 153 rural roads spanning 767.6 km in the district and directed officials to carry out regular repairs, including patchwork and other maintenance, wherever required.
