The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a heat wave across 11 districts of Haryana for Sunday. These districts are Mahendragarh, Rewari, Jhajjar, Nuh, Palwal, Rohtak, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri. There is a yellow alert for a heat wave in these districts.
However, for May 25, there is an orange heat wave alert for 11 districts: Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Bhiwani, Rohtak, Charkhi Dadri, Jhajjar, Rewari, Mahendragarh, Nuh and Palwal. There is a yellow heat wave alert for nine districts: Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonepat, Panipat, and Jind.
During a yellow alert, residents are expected to keep watch, and during an orange alert, they are expected to remain alert.
For May 26, there is a yellow alert for a heat wave in Panchkula and Yamunanagar, while the rest of the 20 districts are under an orange alert. For May 27, there is an orange heat wave alert for the entire state of Haryana.
According to the weather department, a western disturbance is approaching, and isolated light to moderate rainfall, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph), is expected in Haryana on May 28 and May 29.
Meanwhile, the average maximum temperature across Haryana fell by 1.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday owing to thunderstorms. Though all stations recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, at most stations, the maximum temperature was near normal.
Rohtak recorded the highest day temperature at 44.1 degrees Celsius, followed by 44 degrees Celsius in Sirsa, 42.4 degrees Celsius in Hisar, and 42.1 degrees Celsius in Jind.
“From May 24 to May 27, there will be a gradual rise in maximum temperatures in Haryana,” said Director, IMD, Chandigarh, Surender Paul.
