Haze forces cancellation of 2 flights at Kuching airport

KUCHING: Two flights were cancelled at Kuching International Airport (KIA) today as worsening haze affected visibility in parts of Sarawak, although airport operations were largely unaffected.

KIA senior manager Jun Iskandar Murshidi said the affected services were the Kuching-Mukah and Kuching-Tanjung Manis flights operated by AirBorneo Airways.

The Kuching-Mukah service had 24 passengers, while five passengers were booked on the flight to Tanjung Manis.

“As at 4.25pm, two flights were cancelled,” he was quoted by The Borneo Post as saying.

Jun said visibility at Runway 07 and Runway 25 stood at 2,000m, comfortably above KIA’s minimum visibility requirement of 800m.

Earlier today, the airline notified passengers on Facebook that selected flights had been affected by the worsening haze.

“Selected flights are affected due to the worsening haze. Please refer to the affected flight information for the latest updates,” it said.
