Haze continued to affect several parts of Malaysia on Tuesday (Aug 25), with 30 areas across eight states and two Federal Territories recording unhealthy air quality as of 10am.

According to The Star, data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed that the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading nationwide was recorded at the Serian district police headquarters in Sarawak at 181.

Selangor among worst affected

IPD Serian in Sarawak recorded the country’s highest API reading at 181, followed by Johan Setia in Selangor at 175, Sri Aman in Sarawak at 170, Shah Alam in Selangor at 162 and Kuching in Sarawak at 161.

Tanjung Malim in Perak and Samarahan in Sarawak each recorded an API reading of 156.

Meanwhile, Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur, Minden in Penang, Kuala Selangor in Selangor, Nilai in Negeri Sembilan, Bukit Rambai in Melaka and Putrajaya each recorded readings of 155.

In Perak, Tasek Ipoh and Taiping recorded API readings of 154, while Seri Manjung recorded 153.

Several other areas also remained in the unhealthy category. Klang, Sungai Petani, Petaling Jaya, Seremban, Batu Pahat, Tangkak, Sarikei and Alor Gajah each recorded readings of 152.

Pegoh Ipoh, Segamat and Seberang Perai each recorded 151, while Banting recorded 150.

Balik Pulau in Penang recorded an API reading of 149, while Kota Tinggi in Johor recorded 112.

Selangor recorded six areas with unhealthy air quality, the highest number among the affected states.

Meanwhile, 37 areas nationwide recorded moderate air quality.

API readings are updated every hour

Under Malaysia’s API classification, readings between 0 and 50 are considered good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are classified as hazardous.

Malaysia has 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide, with API readings updated every hour based on data from the respective stations.
