MELAKA - All schools under the Education Ministry (MOE) in Melaka will be closed on Friday after Air Pollution Index (API) readings exceeded 150, which is at the unhealthy level.
Melaka Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs executive councillor Datuk Rahmad Mariman said the decision followed continuous monitoring by the Melaka State Education Department and an official report from the Department of Environment (DOE).
He said the closure involves all schools across the state to ensure the health and safety of pupils, teachers and school staff.
"This decision was made following continuous monitoring by the department and an official DOE report showing that the API in key areas of Melaka has exceeded 150, which is at the unhealthy level.
"This closure is to ensure the health, safety and well-being of pupils, teachers and all school staff are always safeguarded," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Rahmad said he had also given parallel instructions for all Religious Primary Schools (SRA) under the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) and kindergartens to close tomorrow.
He said the state education department, together with the district education offices of Melaka Tengah, Jasin and Alor Gajah, would continue to monitor the haze situation from time to time in line with MOE guidelines.
"Any latest information or changes regarding the next school sessions will be announced from time to time through official channels.
"The state education department seeks the cooperation and concern of the entire education community and parents or guardians to always put the health of children first during this period," he said.
