The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued notices to the Punjab Government, the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, and the Amritsar Police Commissionerate on a petition seeking the transfer of an investigation into the suicide by Punjab State Warehousing Corporation official Dr Gagandeep Singh to an independent agency such as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The petition was filed by Opinder Kaur, wife of the deceased official. She has alleged that the investigation conducted by the Punjab Police has not been fair and complete. She has sought a court-monitored probe by an independent agency into the circumstances leading to her husband’s death.

During the hearing, counsel appearing for the respondents sought time to file replies. Accepting the request, the HC adjourned the matter for further hearing to July 16.
