Ahead of the Operation Bluestar anniversary on June 6, Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav on Saturday visited Amritsar, and chaired a comprehensive law and order review meeting with senior police officers.
Besides officials from the Amritsar Police Commissionerate, senior officers from Amritsar (rural), Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran police districts also attended the meeting.
The meeting assumes significance as security agencies remain on high alert in view of the Operation Bluestar anniversary, and ongoing investigations into two major incidents in the border region — the IED blast outside the Khasa Army Cantonment area; and the brutal murder of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Joga Singh, allegedly carried out by operatives linked to Pakistan-based foreign terrorist networks.
The police are yet to make any significant breakthrough in either case.
During the meeting, the DGP reviewed the overall security situation, and directed officials to intensify preventive policing measures across the border belt, apart from assessing emerging crime trends. He stressed the need for heightened vigilance, robust intelligence gathering, inter-district coordination, and strict monitoring of anti-social and anti-national elements to ensure peace and public safety.
As part of his visit, the DGP inaugurated the newly established Mohkampura police station, developed under the Smart City Project.
The facility is expected to strengthen policing infrastructure and improve public service delivery in the holy city.
In line with Punjab Police’s push towards technology-driven policing, the DGP also inaugurated the e-Challan System at the Police Commissionerate.
With the launch of the automated traffic enforcement mechanism, Amritsar has become the fourth city in Punjab — after SAS Nagar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana — to implement the system.
The initiative aims to bring greater transparency in traffic enforcement, improve compliance with road safety norms, and streamline challan issuance.
The DGP honoured police personnel with Commendation Discs, certificates and cash rewards in recognition of their exemplary service, dedication and professionalism in the line of duty.
