A woman in her 30s has her own career and has always been financially independent. Her previous relationship lasted almost three years, but it left her emotionally exhausted.
According to XUAN解忧树洞, her ex was very traditional and believed that because she was mature, capable and independent, she did not need to be pampered. There was no princess treatment. Most of the time, she felt like she was receiving only the bare minimum.
A year after the breakup, she met her current boyfriend.
He is younger than her and works for a living. His income is lower than hers, but that never stopped him from treating her with care. For the first time, she experienced what genuine princess treatment felt like.
He never assumed that being independent meant she needed less love or attention.
He also cares about her family. Whenever they meet, he often asks whether they need anything and whether he should bring something for them. Since she lives with her family and sees them more often, he feels that it is only natural to think about them too.
At first, her family liked him and everyone got along well.
However, during their most recent meeting, he was unusually quiet and did not seem as cheerful or enthusiastic as usual. He later explained what had happened and admitted that he had not behaved very well that day. She understood and felt that mutual understanding was enough.
Her family did not see it that way.
After that one meeting, they began feeling that he was not a suitable person. They even said they did not want to see him again for the time being. They were not officially against the relationship, but they simply did not want to meet him until further notice.
Those words left her deeply hurt.
What made things worse was hearing her family say that her previous boyfriend was actually not that bad.
To her, that comparison felt unfair.
Her ex earned more money, but his generosity felt limited. He could have RM10,000 and only be willing to spend RM100 on her.
Her current boyfriend might only have RM1,000, yet he would willingly give RM999.
She would never actually take that much from him. In fact, she often feels more protective of his money because she knows how hard he works for it.
Little things have slowly piled up, leaving her feeling misunderstood by her own family. They have never directly told her to break up, but their cold expressions and comments make her feel caught in the middle.
She does not want to give up this relationship. She does not care that he earns less, and she wants to build a future together.
For the first time, she feels genuinely loved.
And perhaps that is why this relationship means so much.
For once, she finally understands what it feels like to believe, “I deserve princess treatment.”
