SHAH ALAM – The Health Ministry has warned the public against sales and promotional activities involving devices marketed as “hydrogen inhalers” or hydrogen machines, particularly claims of health or treatment benefits that have not been scientifically validated or approved by the authorities.
The ministry said any medical device sold or used in Malaysia must be registered with the Medical Device Authority (MDA) under the Medical Devices Act 2012 (Act 737).
It stressed that the sale, distribution or advertising of unregistered medical devices constitutes an offence under the law and may result in enforcement action.
The ministry's warning comes amid concerns over promotional activities involving hydrogen-related devices and claims associated with their use.
The ministry advised the public, particularly senior citizens, not to be easily persuaded by claims promising treatment effects or health benefits that have not been scientifically established or approved by the relevant authorities.
“Consumers are urged to verify the registration status of medical devices through MDA's official website before making any purchase.
“Members of the public should remain vigilant when approached through sales activities targeting elderly consumers, particularly those involving pressure tactics or emotional appeals.
“Consumers should not make purchasing decisions based solely on claims made by sellers or promoters, especially when such claims involve the treatment or prevention of health conditions,” the ministry said.
It also urged anyone who encounters the sale of unregistered products, devices or advertisements containing misleading claims, to submit complaints to the ministry or MDA for further investigation.
The ministry said such reports could assist the authorities in determining whether the products or promotional activities comply with existing laws and regulations governing medical devices.
It further reminded the public to exercise caution when considering products promoted for health purposes and to seek appropriate advice from registered medical practitioners when dealing with health-related concerns.
