Kota Kinabalu: The hearing for applications filed by the legal team representing the family of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir to be recognised as an interested party in the inquest and to access all relevant documents will be held on Aug 28.
Counsels Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri confirmed that the applications, filed on Aug 19, will be heard before Sabah State Court Director Azreena Aziz, who is presiding over the inquest as the Coroner.
During earlier proceedings, Hamid had made an oral request for the legal team to be directly involved in the inquest, allowing them to examine witnesses. He also requested that the relevant documents be served promptly so the team could prepare questions to assist the coroner.
While Hamid urged the coroner to make an immediate ruling, the conducting officers advised that a formal application be submitted, prompting the current legal process.
The inquest into Zara’s death has been scheduled for 19 days in September.
