KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s independent badminton duo, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, experienced a rollercoaster of emotions as their journey at the Kumamoto Masters Japan came to a close in the semi-finals today.

The 12th-ranked pair showcased their prowess in a gripping encounter against China’s eighth-ranked Liu Yuchen-Ou Xuanyi.

After dominating the first game with a score of 21-16, the Malaysians faced a setback in the second, narrowly losing 20-22.

As the match entered the decider, Yew Sin-Ee Yi demonstrated resilience against their formidable opponents in the Super 500 event.

However, despite their tenacity, they ultimately succumbed 17-21 in the third est, marking their third defeat to the Chinese pair in four meetings.

The duo’s standout performances this season included reaching the semi-finals at the Taipei Open in June and the Swiss Open in March.

Their next mission would be the Super 750 China Masters, commencing on Tuesday, where they will go head-to-head with compatriots and former world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in the opening round. — November 18, 2023
