A HEATED argument broke out between Kuamut Assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah and Lamag Assemblyman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin during the former’s debate on the 2024 State Budget.

Masiung raised a point about Bung’s focus which, instead of addressing the allotted time to discuss Lamag and its issues, chose to divert the topic towards Kuamut and its assemblyman.

“Bung claims to be responsible for all the development in Kuamut. He had prior experience as a Member of Parliament for two terms before I assumed the role of assemblyman. I extend my sympathies to Bung,” said Masiung, adding that the people of Kuamut are aware of the actual situation.

Masiung claimed that Bung demonstrated a lack of understanding regarding the roles and jurisdictions of the State and Federal Governments.

“The collaboration between the Federal and State Governments is a common occurrence. The State Government is represented by the state assemblymen, while the federal is represented by members of parliament. They collaborate and rely on each other to develop any area,” he said.

At this juncture, Bung told Masiung not to talk big as it was he (Bung) who introduced him to politics. “To me you don’t talk big, to others, you can,” he said.

Bung then stood up seeking clarification on repeated failures. Masiung, however, declined to accommodate, stating that he has limited time allotted to his debate.

During the exchange, Masiung highlighted that Bung veered off topic by bringing up Kuamut.

At this point, Deputy Speaker Datuk Richard Yong reminded them to focus on matters related to the constituency rather than personal matters.

Bung stood up and asserted that he never discussed personal matters. “I am a matured person. I have a strong understanding of how the administration of both the Federal and State Governments operate. I can discuss history if you’d like,” Bung offered, while advising Masiung to be humble and not boastful.

“Please refrain from being impolite and avoid engaging in personal matters,” Bung said.

Masiung said he only brought up the issue because Bung raised the issue of what he (Masiung) has done for Kuamut’s development. To which Bung stood up and asked “What contributions have you made for Kuamut? And what have I accomplished?

At one point Masiung suggested that Bung may have plans to run in the Kuamut elections.
