TRAFFIC flow along several of Malaysia’s main expressways has slowed significantly as the post-Hari Raya travel surge gathers pace, with authorities warning that congestion is likely to persist well into the night.
On the KL-Karak Expressway, westbound traffic heading towards the Klang Valley is moving slowly along multiple stretches, particularly between Karak and the Bentong Toll Plaza, at Lentang, and from Genting Sempah to the Gombak Toll Plaza.
Conditions are similarly strained on the North-South Expressway, where northbound motorists are experiencing delays between Simpang Renggam and Yong Peng Utara, from Tangkak to Jasin, and along the stretch between Ayer Keroh and the Seremban rest and recreation area.
Southbound traffic on the same route is also affected, with congestion reported from Ayer Keroh to Jasin, Yong Peng Utara to Ayer Hitam, and Simpang Renggam to Sedenak, even as weather conditions remain favourable.
Additional disruption has been reported on the Shah Alam Expressway, where an accident at kilometre 49.30 eastbound, between Awan Besar and Suku, has blocked the left lane and caused slow-moving traffic in the surrounding area.
Further delays have been compounded by a stalled vehicle on the southbound carriageway of the North-South Expressway near kilometre 258, between Kuala Kangsar and Ipoh Utara, where the right lane has been obstructed since late afternoon.
Road users are advised to plan their journeys carefully and remain vigilant, as traffic volume is expected to remain high with many travellers continuing their return trips after the festive break. - March 23, 2026
