Heavy rain causes widespread flooding in France’s Marseille

Heavy rain brought by a Mediterranean weather system has triggered flooding in parts of south-eastern France, with roads inundated in the Bouches-du-Rhône department.

Seven departments remain under orange weather alerts for flooding and severe weather as the region continues to face the impact of the heavy rainfall.

The downpours have been particularly intense in parts of the region, with up to 235 millimetres of rain recorded locally in Saint-Chamas.

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant as the adverse weather persists.
