Helicopter catches fire at Subang Airport

A HELICOPTER caught fire while about to take off for engine testing after repairs at the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) area, Subang Airport,  today.

In the incident at about 12.30 pm, four victims were reported to have escaped. It is understood that the incident involved a Kamov Ka-32 helicopter.

Assistant Director of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department's Operations Division, Ashrul Riezal Asbar, said the department received a call about the incident at 12.30 pm before machinery from the Bukit Jelutong Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the location at 12.34 pm.

“The operations commander reported that a helicopter was 100 per cent on fire when the fire brigade arrived at the location. The extinguishing work was also carried out by the airport fire brigade together with the personnel on duty.

“The latest report informs that four victims managed to escape when the fire broke out,” he said in a statement today.

It was earlier reported that people around the airport in Subang were shocked by the plume of smoke and the sight of fire engines near the airport area today.

The situation attracted the attention of social media users who questioned the cause of the incident after seeing the smoke before seeing fire engines at the location. – August 15, 2026
