Malaysian singer and humanitarian activist Heliza Helmi has urged that the story and struggle of Palestine be formally included in Malaysia’s school curriculum.

Speaking passionately at the Solidarity Gathering for Gaza held at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, Heliza said this initiative would help nurture awareness, compassion, and a sense of global responsibility among students from an early age.

“I want to thank our Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and Malaysia for consistently standing firm in support of Palestine,” she said during her speech.

“My hope is that one day, the story of Palestine will be part of our school syllabus , so our children will grow up understanding the meaning of struggle, humanity, and solidarity.”

The emotional event drew thousands of Malaysians united under one cause — to express unwavering support for the people of Gaza. Also taking the stage were Heliza’s sister, Hazwani Helmi, and fellow humanitarian Farah Lee, both of whom have been actively involved in advocacy and relief efforts for Palestine.

Heliza recounted a harrowing moment from her own humanitarian mission, recalling how she and her team were detained and “kidnapped” for three days by Israeli forces during the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) voyage to Gaza.

“We stood our ground and refused to bow to their intimidation. Even when they ordered us to comply, we chose courage over fear and eventually, they surrendered to our determination,” Heliza shared, earning applause from the audience.

The solidarity event also featured several other notable speakers and activists, including Zizi Kirana, Ardell Aryana, PU Rahmat (Rahmat Ikhsan Mohd Sofyan), Ustaz Mad Kecik (Muhamad Abdullah), and Nadir Al-Nuri, each bringing heartfelt messages of resistance, unity, and humanitarian concern.

The gathering was graced by top government leaders, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Nai’im Mokhtar, and Minister of Communications Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Also present were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, and Datuk Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby, Director-General of the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC).

The event marked a historic moment of national unity, highlighting Malaysia’s long-standing position as one of the most vocal defenders of the Palestinian cause on the world stage.

Heliza’s call for educational reform reflects a growing sentiment among Malaysians who believe that understanding the Palestinian struggle is not only a matter of religion or politics but a lesson in empathy, justice, and human rights that should be passed on to future generations.
